Wairimo was found on the streets of Westlands – a neighborhood in Nairobi – where her, her mother, and her four brothers survived by begging. When Wairimo was found she was very sick - diagnosed with tuberculosis and a very serious case of pneumonia– from living in the harsh conditions. Her mother, who utilized her children as a means to get more money, was barely able to provide food, let alone money for proper medical treatment.
Now under the care of the Great Mission Village, Wairimo is back to full health and able to attend school while two of Wairimo’s brothers are under the care of another orphanage .
Wairimo is a very fast learner. Since she has entered school, she has risen to and remained number one in her class. Wairimo is well-respected by her peers, being chosen to serve as a Girls Representative in the home, taking responsibility for speaking on behalf of the girls with the home’s adults.
